Heta Mulari works as a researcher at the Finnish Youth Research Society. She defended her PhD thesis in January 2015 at the department of Cultural History at the University of Turku, Finland. In her doctoral research she explored Swedish Girl Films and the construction of mediated feminist girlhood in Sweden in the 1990s and the early 2000s. Her research interests include youth film studies, feminist historiography, girlhood studies, children's media cultures, visual methodologies and analyzing movement and embodiment.
Heta Mulari's current research project Children's Media Cultures maps and develops methodologies of researching pre-school aged children's media cultures. In addition to her research activities, Mulari works actively in film education and writes film manuals for the School Cinema Association in Finland.
