The regional coordination of youth information and counselling services: a short research based review (2017)

Youth information and counselling service provision is a demanding form of youth work since the availability and timeliness of such services are affected by a variety of factors, from professional competence to the simultaneous changes in young people’s lives and their information needs. In the regional coordination model youth information and counselling workers are offered professional support locally. The Finnish Youth Research Network is producing a research based and future-oriented external review of the role of regional coordination. The data includes interviews of regional coordinators and their supervisors and also some data from a previous quantitative inquiry. The objectives of the research are twofold. First, it will review the intervention logic of regional coordination within youth information and counselling services and then the development of youth well-being. Secondly, the future role of regional coordination will be discussed. Both parts of the discussion will support situating the regional coordination in the context of Finnish and European youth work and policy at a time of change in these fields.
