Kilju stories - compilation of memories (2019–2020)

Kilju, known as sugar wine in English, is a drink that has been part of the lives of young people in Finland for generations. The Finnish Youth Research Network’s compilation of memories project is recording experiences and stories about kilju dating back to the post-war decades up to the present-day. The purpose of the compilation is to produce a scientific publication with the memories and to archive the stories about kilju. This will allow future generations to learn about this unique aspect of Finnish youth and alcohol culture.

The kilju stories compilation of memories is the joint project of youth researchers Mikko Salasuo and Malin Fransberg. The project will allow the researchers to study the meanings of kilju in youth cultures and in different youth generations.
